  • The IISc Foundation is incorporated as a Non-Profit entity in the US and set up as a Non-Profit 501 c3 Foundation, managed by an independent Board of Directors for the sole benefit of IISc and its donors so that donations can be made through the Foundation to IISc in a Tax-exempt manner. It is organized under the Nonprofit Public Benefit Corporation Law for charitable
  • The Foundation was formed in Feb 2022; It maintains an arms-length relationship to IISc and follows an independent governance model. The Terms of Engagement and MoU with IISc define this relationship and operation.

  • The mission of the Foundation is to secure funding for promoting education, research, technology development, startup incubation/acceleration, and transformational research is the Indian Institute of Science (IISc) in Bangalore, India. The foundation will achieve its goals by providing financial and other resources for IISc.
  • The foundation will raise donations, bequests, gifts, and grants from alumni, chapters, associates, individuals, benefactors, corporations, foundations, or trusts in the USA and across the globe, outside of India.

The Foundation will be building on the significant success achieved by IISc in the form of major donationsby the Bagchi, Parthasarathy and Isaac families toward the IISc Hospital project. These donations will offer a great springboard for the Foundation’s fund-raising efforts in the US.

The Foundation and IISc ‘s Office of Development and Alumni Affairs will work closely together to strengthen and grow the global network of IISc alumni and corporate donors.

The Foundation and IISc Alumni Association of North America (IISc AANA) will be working very closely to promote IISc and its various funding opportunities to US-based Alumni, High Net-Worth Individuals, Family offices and corporate donors.

    • Purchase of equipment for research and education at IISc and their maintenance costs.
    • establishment of teaching/reference and research facilities at IISc and their maintenance (including the hiring of technical staff). Journals, books, and databases for all IISc libraries at IISc.
    • Construction, infrastructure, purchase of biomedical equipment, software, and operational costs of hospitals established by IISc. 
    • Establishment of endowments that IISc may use for its future growth and maintenance.
    • Scholarships, fellowships, and internship grants for students attending IISc
    • health care and wellness measures for students attending IISc
    • Chair professorships and other endowed positions for faculty members of IISc
    • Travel grants for IISc faculty members and students
    • Visiting Chair professorships for visiting faculty members and researchers travel grants,and internships for visiting students
